Emission spectra from levitated microdroplets are found to change radically in the presence of different surface fluors. This effect originates from orientation dependent coupling to whispering gallery modes, and provides a nearly ideal system to test current theory. Semiclassical ideas are found to be sufficient for describing the strength of the resonant features. The orientation of these surface entities are determined through this comparison.
